I was born in Des Moines, Iowa and grew up in the midwest. I have enjoyed art for as long as I can remember and decided when I was a child that I wanted to be a painter. My mother taught me to sew and knit while I was growing up and it was only while attending college at the Kansas City Art Institute that I realized I could combine my love of art with my love of clothing.
I decided to major in fiber because I loved the process of raw materials becoming useful and beautiful objects through processing, dying, spinning, weaving and knitting. When I learned to dye fleece and spin yarn I fell in love with my materials, and when I learned to make patterns and knit on a machine I fell in love with knitwear design.
My inspiration is all around me. I see things every day that are interesting and beautiful. I find myself most inspired by modern art, world textiles and the natural world.
